TIRUCHI: Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has announced a six-and-a-half hour load shedding in Tiruchi region effective from Friday. The load shedding duration would be common across the region covering Tiruchi, Perambalur, Karur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukottai districts. Till now, the load shedding has been for four hours in Tiruchi city and five hours in other places. TNEB sources attributed the worsening crisis to the drastic fall in wind power generation and the increasing demand. The load shedding schedule would include a four-hour continuous break between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.; one hour between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.; and one-and-a-half hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Apart from the four-hour break, rural areas would get three phase power supply for four hours and two phase supply for another four hours during the day. All high-tension industrial and commercial users have been advised to use gensets only from 6 to 10 p.m. For agricultural connections, four hours supply would be provided between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. and for six hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The four-hour power cut during the day would be enforced on rotation and it would be from 6 to 10 a.m. or 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 2 to 6 p.m. A major part of the City would go without power from 6 to 10 a.m., which has attracted strong condemnation from residents, consumers and traders organisations.
