Vidyarambham held at Dakshina Mookambika

A Correspondent

NEDUMBASSERY: The Dakshina Mookambika Temple at North Paravur near here bristled with thousands of tiny tots on Thursday as they were initiated into the world of learning.

They, mostly in the three to five age group, sat before the ‘gurus’ in the make-shift tents — ‘Saraswathy Mandapams’ — set up on the temple premises. The gurus inscribed ‘Harisree’ on their tongues with golden rings and made them write the letters on rice with their fingers.

Melsanthy Sreenivasan Potty along with 20 other gurus performed Vidhyarambham at the temple.

The ceremony continued till 2 p.m. Heavy rush was witnessed in the temple. Long queues could be found in front of the temple from the early hours of Thursday. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple opened at 3 a.m. After the ‘Poojayeduppu’ ceremony, the Vidhyarambham ceremonies began at 5.30 a.m., said the temple administrator.

The Mookambika Temple at North Paravur is one of the few Saraswathy temples in the State. Located in the middle of a lotus pond, it attracts many tourists too.

‘Navaratri,’ considered the most important festival here, also witnessed children making their debut in various art forms during the nine-day celebrations.
