‘Customers’ flee with jewellery

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Two men who posed as customers attacked a jewellery shop owner near Chandra Layout and took away gold ornaments worth Rs. 12 lakh on Thursday.

The police identified the victim as Subhash, proprietor of Mahalakshmi Jewellers in Kalyananagar.

The owner of the shop, Subhash, has filed a complaint with the police.

The two arrived on a two-wheeler around 8.30 a.m. and asked Subhash, who was alone in the shop, to show them the latest designs of chains and rings.

When he obliged them, they overpowered him and fled the spot with two boxes of jewellery. Further investigation is on into the incident.

Guard arrested

A security guard was arrested by the High Grounds police for allegedly stealing Rs. 2.15 lakh from Fun Cinemas at Sigma Mall here. The police said the accused, Shibukumar Deban Sudham, a native of Manipur, was assigned to the multiplex by Alert Commando Security Services. On October 5, he reportedly stole the money and fled. He planned to start a business with stolen money.

Chain-snatchers caught

The Chandra Layout police who arrested two alleged chain snatchers — Parameshi alias Papu (26) and Firoz Khan (21), both from Shimoga — clamed to have solved nine chain-snatching cases reported in the city. “Both were arrested for theft in Shimoga and released on bail. They relocated to Yelahanka a year ago. They had stolen five chains through open windows with the help of cables and sticks near Siddaganga College Road in Chandra Layout and two chains in Vidyaranyapuram,” police said.

CoD probe

The case of shooting down of actor and realtor Vinod Kumar earlier this week may be handed over to the Corps of Detectives (CoD) in the wake of some Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh politicians allegedly exerting pressure on the Bangalore City Police on behalf of the accused Govardhan Murthy.
