Chitra begins in style

BANGALORE: India’s Chitra Magimairaj, current State champion and two-time World billiards champion, began her quest in the Australian Open women’s snooker championship with three fluent wins on the opening day, according to reports reaching here.

Chitra blanked Jacqueline Baird (NSW) 54-41, 56-34 and then prevailed over Anna Green (NSW) 19-52, 54-49, 95 (64)-2 and then returned later in the session to blank Sandra Markovic (also NSW) 58-30, 51-6.

Chitra now plays Dianne Spring (NSW) and Shirley Smith (Queensland) in the next two matches from group B and even one win will ensure her a knock-out berth. Shirley too has won all her three matches in the group.

From group A Carlie Tait (NSW) and Linda Lucas (SA) have won three matches out of the four they have played thus far.
