Bhainsa sitting on a powder keg
Staff Reporter
ADILABAD: It is apparent that the district police had failed to anticipate outbreak of trouble during the Goddess Durga immersion procession in Bhainsa town on Friday. The inadequate number of policemen present on bandobast duty during the immersion procession buttresses this contention.
The police department should have been alert following an incident during the Ganesh immsersion procession in Adilabad last month. Though an outbreak of violence between the two communities was averted at that time, the incident amply demonstrated that more such incidents could be expected in future.
Besides the district headquarters town, Bhainsa is also communally very sensitive in Adilabad. There were violent incidents in this town in 1992 and 1996 that had claimed a few lives.
