CUDDALORE: Members of the Labour Progressive Front (LPF) of the Nevyeli Lignite Corporation (NLC) observed a day’s hunger strike on the NLC premises on Friday. General secretary of the LPF R. Gopalan said stalemate continued on fixing the conveyance allowance. The LPF was demanding the conveyance allowance on par with the Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd. that had agreed to pay Rs.1,950 a month under this head. Mr. Gopalan noted that the revision of conveyance allowance had fallen due in NLC in 2005. At present the NLC was paying only Rs.635 a month as conveyance allowance. If the NLC management did not concede the LPF demand its members would observe work-to-rule agitation on October 13 and 14 and stay-in-strike on October 15, Mr. Gopalan added.
