Ryots to be compensated for damage

Allaying fears: Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Vanama Venkateswar Rao reassuring the farmers who met him on Saturday.

KHAMMAM: Farmers will be compensated for the crop damage caused on account of the pipe-laying works in progress for the Rajiv Sagar lift irrigation project, according to Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Vanama Venkateswar Rao. A delegation of farmers from villages such as Anisettilli and Bommanapalli made a representation to the Minister on the issue.

They explained that the pipelines for the project were being laid across their lands and the contractor concerned paid no compensation for the damage.

They wanted either the works to be stopped forthwith or the compensation granted.

‘No letting down’

The Minister assured them that the Government, which had taken up the prestigious irrigation project, would not let them down.

They would be paid Rs 16,000 per acre making up for the crop loss in a day or two, He wanted the officials concerned to ensure that the farmers were not put to loss. Some farmers wanted as much as Rs 25000 to be granted per acre as compensation.

He made it clear to them the peasant community in the region would be the major beneficiary of the project.

He urged them not to stall works as they were certain to get their due.

All out efforts were being made to complete well on time the project aimed at lifting water from the Godavari river.

The Minister asked the Transco official to ensure power supply to the drinking water supply scheme at Kinnerasani which was catering to entire coal town and its suburban pockets.

The civic authorities told him that the water supply was being affected because of the frequent power cuts.

The Minister wanted the civic authorities to utilize the funds released to the municipality for different development works without any delay.

The works must be completed in a month’s time.

He also wanted the pace of works on the Indiramma houses to be stepped up as the Indiramma sambaralu were to be celebrated soon in villages.

The Minister distributed Rajiv Arogyasri cards to the residents of Chatakonda village.
