10,000 people to attend Dattamala Abhiyan

250 prabandaks deployed for the event

CHIKMAGALUR: Gangadhar Kulkarni, convenor of the State unit of Srirama Sena has demanded that the Datta Padukas, kept in the district treasury by the authorities after the roof of the shrine at Bababudangiri caved in owing to heavy rain, should be made available for darshan during Dattamala Abhiyan.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Kulkarni said that keeping the Datta Padukas in the district treasury was in violation of the court order. Heads of various religious institutions had promised that they would hold discussions with the Government in this regard.

He said that leaders of his organisation had decided to invite K.S. Eswarappa, Minister in-charge of the district, to participate in Dattamala Abhiyan.

The authorities should make arrangements to keep the Datta Padukas outside the shrine for darshan.

He said 10,000 people , including Pramod Muthalik, president of the State unit of Srirama Sena, were expected to attend the Dattamala Abhiyan on October 14.

He said that 250 prabandaks had been deployed to ensure that the programme was peaceful.

Basavaraj Siddalingappa, general secretary; Ravi Siddaling, secretary; Hariprakash, organising secretary of the State unit of the Sena, and B. Ramabhatta of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, were present.
