Student electrocuted, villagers stage dharna

SANGAREDDY: Angry over the death of a student due to electrocution, villagers of Mangalaparthi staged a dharna in front of the sub-station with the body for 18 hours before being pacified by officials.
According to sources, Venu Prasad (18) was electrocuted late on Friday night while trying to replace a bulb at his house.
Alleging that negligence on part of the electricity department had led to the boy’s death, the villagers demanded action against the officials responsible.
They also recalled how about 30 persons in the village had met with electric shocks in the past.
They attacked electricity Assistant Engineer Eswar Das and lineman Narasimhulu, Mr. Narasimhulu was injured in the attack.
The electricity officials promised to pay a compensation of Rs. 50,000 to the kin of the student and another Rs. 50,000 if it was proved that the department was responsible. MRO Ananta Ramulu paid a compensation of Rs. 10,000 as an immediate help.
