KOCHI: The 58th Pooja all-India cricket tournament begins with the first phase of matches at the Palace Oval, Tripunithura, on Sunday. Twenty-three teams will figure in the first phase with two qualifying for the main phase. Muthoot ECC ‘A,’ which made the main phase last year, BPCL Kochi Refinery, Globstar Telecom, Kids CC, Jolly Rovers and host Maruti Homes TCC ‘A’ are some of the prominent teams which will figure in the first phase. The first phase ends on November 3 and the main phase will begin after a week’s gap. Basketball tournamentThe 18th P.L. Lawrence Trophy all-Kerala inter-school basketball tournament for boys and girls, which was scheduled to begin next week at the Fort Kochi YMCA, has been postponed. The tournament will now be held from November 11 to 14. Entries may be sent to the Fort Kochi YMCA office on or before November 5. Tournament postponedThe inaugural all-Kerala kids’ inter-school basketball tournament scheduled to be held at the Infant Jesus School, Mavelikkara from October 17 to 19 has been postponed. The new dates for the tournament will be announced later. Raveendran nominatedThe International Carrom Federation has nominated P. Raveendran (Secretary, Kerala State Carrom Association) as the technical director of the fifth ICF Cup carrom championship in Colombo from October 15 to 19.
