Flyover to be ready by September next year

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: The work on the flyover at Mavoor Road-Arayedathupalam Junction in the city is progressing as planned, according to sources.

The work being carried out by the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society ( ULCCS) is expected to be completed by September 2009, the society’s president, P. Rameshan, said here on Sunday.

The flyover would ease traffic congestion at one of the most vital points in the city and create conditions for free movement of vehicles towards all four directions, including to the medical college side, he said.

Mr. Rameshan expressed satisfaction over the performance of various departments associated with the work. The Power, Public Works and the Police Departments had been cooperating in the efficient implementation of the project, he said.

ULCCS sources said work on the redesigned 13 spans of the flyover was progressing fast. There are 12 spans measuring 25 metres each and one span of 37.1 metre.

The pier work was complete and the casting of the first slab had started. The approach road on the city side measures 21 metres. It is 180 metres on the Medical College side, sources said.

Four-lane road

The 2.85-km four-lane Arayedathupalam-Eranhipalam road provided with a two-metre footpath, wherever space permitted, was also progressing well. The work would be completed in six months, Mr. Rameshan said.

The work on the side drains could be delayed because of the involvement of a number of agencies, he added.
