CHICKBALLAPUR: The Gauribidanur police on Saturday seized 34 bags of wheat, which was meant for supply to the poor under the public distribution system (PDS), while the bags were being unloaded into a warehouse belonging to a local councillor. On Saturday evening, an alert public noticed that wheat meant for PDS was being unloaded from a truck to the warehouse belonging to businessman N.R. Radhakrishna Gupta, who is also a Congress councillor of Gauribidanur Town Municipal Council, and alerted the police. The police, who were initially reluctant to initiate action, later seized 34 bags of wheat from the truck following public pressure. It is said that the truck contained 160 bags of wheat.
