This Day That Age
Western delegations on October 11 introduced in the Political Committee of the U.N. General Assembly a resolution calling upon Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union to suspend all nuclear tests while negotiations were in progress. The negotiations are due to start in Geneva on October 31. The resolution sponsored by Britain, the United States, Canada and 14 other countries asked the nations which tested nuclear weapons to negotiate and make every effort to reach early agreement on suspension of such tests under effective international control. It emphasised the importance and urgency of achieving the widest possible measure of agreement in the forthcoming study of technical aspects and measures against the possibility of surprise attacks.
