Chief Minister for Delhi today

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will leave for New Delhi on Monday on a two-day visit. He will attend the meeting of the National Integration Council (NIC) to be chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday. He is scheduled to call on the Prime Minister, AICC president Sonia Gandhi and a few Union Ministers for taking up issues pertaining to clearances for pending projects in Andhra Pradesh.

During his meeting with Ms. Gandhi, the Chief Minister is expected to brief her about the latest political developments in the State, including the proposed alliance between the Telugu Desam, the Left and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti. Dr. Reddy, according to sources, would explain to the Congress president about the U-turn taken by the TDP in announcing support for separate Telangana. He could also discuss the response to Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi’s tour in North Coastal Andhra.

Dr. Reddy will make a presentation on the measures launched by his Government to maintain social justice and protection of communal harmony when he meets Dr. Singh on Tuesday. He is likely to explain the measures like quota for Muslims and various welfare steps launched for the empowerment of minorities in the State.

He is expected to brief the Prime Minister about the steps like creation of an exclusive wing OCTOPUS to counter terrorist/extremist activities for which the Government had decided to recruit 37,000 police personnel. Process for recruitment of 17,000 persons was under way and the balance would be completed soon.
