Chiru’s juggernaut rolls on

Suresh Krishnamoorthy

Party’s policies to be unravelled one by one

“PR would be a bridge to facilitate true gram swaraj”

VIZIANAGARAM: In a veiled reference to the Left parties, Praja Rajyam (PR) president Chiranjeevi on Sunday categorically stated that he was answerable only to people and that he would unravel his policies and programmes one by one before them.

Addressing a massive gathering here, he wondered aloud, “Who are they to criticise Praja Rajyam and ask me to announce my policies and programmes. I will spell them out to people only. People are my guiding forces and I will go by what they say and not political parties”.

‘Not for pleasure’

Chiranjeevi said he was not in politics for pleasure and certainly not to bolster his assets. He wanted to serve people, he said, regretting that politics for some has become a vehicle to amass wealth, help their relatives and friends. Neglect of welfare and rampant corruption everywhere was making people wonder if they had made a mistake electing ‘wrong people’ in every election.

“When neighbouring States are well and truly on the path to development why is Andhra Pradesh lagging behind? What do we lack despite having the best of resources?”, he asked youth at Three Lanterns Junction, near the famous Pyditalli temple.

Lack of political will

He went on to attribute it mostly to ‘lack of political will’ and ‘callousness’ of governments, not forgetting to remind people that corruption was eating into their lives. The PR would be a bridge to facilitate true ‘gram swaraj’, he repeated at every meeting. Earlier, Chiranjeevi arrived to a rousing reception as his chopper landed at an open field in the town. A few thousand people thronged the roadside, while hundreds of screaming youth walked along as the convoy inched around Vizianagaram. It took him nearly three hours to cover a few kilometres in the town. He addressed the teeming crowds at a half-a-dozen places before moving on to Gotlam, Bondapalli and Gajapathipuram.
