SIMI, Bajrang Dal dangerous, says Narayanan

NEW DELHI: Terming the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and the Bajrang Dal dangerous, National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan has said they are not two sides of the same coin.

He said there was a need to effectively deal with such organisations “because then there are many copycat organisations ... several micro units of the same kind may come up.”

He claimed that “SIMI and Bajrang Dal are not two sides of the same coin, but both of them are dangerous.”

More number of Bajrang Dal activists should be arrested “based on the information we have ... you can ban it but you will then not be able to sustain it,” the former IB chief told NDTV.

He said that as was the case with SIMI “the evidences collected on procedural matters that got up with Supreme Court ... you may get a vicarious pleasure of banned or not banned. What you need is to prevent them from acting and I think that is what needs to be done.”

Mr. Narayanan said he firmly believed that militant outfits “under whatever dispensation they are, should be banned.”

Though the actions of the Bajrang Dal are militant “the problem around Bajrang Dal is that it really does not exist as an organisation.” — PTI
