Successful IVF treatment at AIIMS

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences has successfully delivered in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) twins to a 31-year-old woman, who had been undergoing infertility treatment for the past five years.

Diagnosed with tuberculosis of the uterus, the woman who had been married for seven years was treated with anti-tubercular drugs for the past nine months.

In a statement issued, the Institute said that the women after failing to conceive and respond to treatment approached the IVF clinic at AIIMS.

The IVF procedure was carried out at the Institute in March this year by Dr. Suneeta Mittal and Dr. Sumana G.

Following continuous monitoring and treatment, the women finally gave birth to twins this past Thursday.

The twins, both girls weighing 1.4 kg each, were born through emergency caesarean.

According to doctors, conception rate in women who suffer from tuberculosis of uterus is extremely low.
