2000 students use web counselling on first day

Special Correspondent

Over 13,000 seats available in engg., pharmacy

‘Freezing’ option introduced this time

Students advised to take final printout

HYDERABAD: Nearly 2,000 students used the web counselling option for admission into engineering and pharmacy courses on the first day of the final phase web counselling on Sunday.

Students will have the option of changing their preferences till October 19 and more than 13,000 seats are available in various colleges.

In view of some allegations that preferences were changed in the first phase of web counselling, the Department of Technical Education has introduced the “freezing” option this time. Once the student is satisfied with the changed options they can freeze their choice and no one including the student would be able to access it after that. P. Subba Reddy, Professor of Computer Sciences, who designed the software, cautioned the students not to give many options since they are available.

He said students should select only the colleges and courses that they are really interested in though 200 options were available. He said they can change their options 10 times till October 19 but advised that students need not use the facility if they are satisfied with the present allotment.

He reminded that if students change their college only the tuition fee would be transferred and not the other fee collected by the colleges.

Prof. Reddy said preferences given after the choice of the existing college will not be taken into account by the computer while allotting seats.

For example, if a student places his or her existing college in the fourth place, choices given before it will only be taken into consideration by the software.

And if their rank doesn’t match with the available seats the software will allot the seat in the existing college only.

He advised the students to take a printout after giving the final options and freeze them as proof .

EAMCET rank, hall-ticket number and scratch card number is must to gain entry to the website.
