HYDERABAD: Setting aside its decades’ old practice, the Society for Employment Promotion and Training in Twin Cities (SETWIN) has decided to issue tickets to passengers travelling in its buses. Nearly 100 mini-SETWIN buses are being operated on different routes in the twin cities with charges levied on a par with the APSRTC. But, unlike the RTC commuters, those travelling in SETWIN buses are not issued tickets. Ever since these buses hit the roads in the 1980s, there has been no ticketing system. However, the system was leading to confusion among commuters over the fares collected for different routes, said SETWIN MD M. Madana Mohana Rao. The introduction of ticketing system is aimed at making it convenient for commuters, besides generating advertisement revenue for the organisation. The space behind the tickets would be utilised for advertisements. “We are planning to introduce tickets in three denominations of Rs.3, Rs.5 and Rs.7 based on the distance travelled. Tenders would be called by this month-end to shortlist advertisers,” said Mr. Rao. InspectorsOn the need to curb the increasing complaints of rash and negligent driving, Mr. Rao informed that two vehicle inspectors were appointed to monitor performance of bus drivers. It may be recalled that a woman died at Khairatabad last month when a SETWIN bus hit her two-wheeler. In another instance, smoke emanated from the bus engine at Begumpet triggering panic among passengers. The inspectors would monitor the drivers’ performance and also check the condition of the bus fleet every week. Based on their reports, stern action would be initiated against the drivers and if need be, permits would also be cancelled, he said. Apart from this, drivers were instructed to obtain annual fitness certificates from respective RTOs to operate on city roads, he said.
