Social Solidarity Fortnight

Thiruvananthapuram: The State-level Social Solidarity Fortnight celebrations, which began on October 2 under the auspices of the Department of SC/ST Welfare, will conclude here on Thursday.Chairman of the reception committee V. Surendran Pillai, MLA, said that this year’s celebrations were based on the theme ‘Drug free family-Drug free Kerala.’ He told a press conference here on Monday that the valedictory would be marked by the inauguration of new schemes and distribution of financial assistance. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan is scheduled to inaugurate the valedictory at the Post Metric Hostel, Poochedivila, on Thursday. He will inaugurate the new buildings constructed for the girls’ hostel and library. The function will be preceded by a procession from the Martyr’s Column at Palayam. Mayor C. Jayan Babu will distribute media awards on the occasion. —Special Correspondent
