Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has urged the Kerala government to set up a statutory, tripartite body to handle labour issues in Special Economic Zones . At a press conference here on Monday, INTUC State president R. Chandrasekharan said the body, comprising government officials, representatives of Central trade unions and managements, should be given powers to ensure job security, workers’ rights and privileges. A legislation should be in place with provisions facilitating government takeover of units that close down owing to management inefficiency.
