Condemnable

The burning of six persons of a family, including three children, in the Vatoli village of Adilabad in Andhra Pradesh is barbarous, cruel, and condemnable.

The police should have been more alert after Friday’s communal flare-up in Bhainsa, which claimed three lives. They should have sounded a red alert throughout Adilabad. It would have prevented the horrific happenings in Vatoli.

Baru Rajendra Prasad,

Hyderabad

The communal violence that broke out in Bhainsa demonstrated the threat to India’s secular edifice. Communalism has shown no sign of abating with the passage of time and the modernisation of our socio-economic structure. Even education has not broadened people’s minds. The communal and casteist moorings have, for all practical purposes, remained intact and unshaken.

The communal and obscurantist forces should not be allowed to undermine our secular spirit, religious tolerance, peace, harmony and co-existence.

M. Satyanarayana Rao,

Hanamkonda

The news of the killing of six members of a family in Adilabad is heart breaking and deserves to be condemned in strong terms. Communal forces seem to have waged a war against the nation for their vested interests. Unless the state acts fast, the situation may go out of control. A laid-back attitude will embolden the fringe elements. A high-level committee should be formed to inquire into the incident, especially because election is round the corner.

Asad Ahmad,

Aligarh

The barbaric incident in Adilabad is a shame on humanity. There is an apparent laxity and lack of foresight on the part of the authorities. The Vatoli killings expose the casual approach of the police.

The time is for the media, particularly television channels, to exercise restraint. Reporting similar incidents that took place in other States years ago will only inflame communal passions.

K. Raghunadha Rao,

Hyderabad

Vatoli is certainly not the first instance of rioting by the Hindutva fanatics in Andhra Pradesh. The sangh parivar has engineered many communal riots in the State. All peace-loving citizens should isolate the saffron forces.

Elyas Muhammad,

Mangalore
