Aircraft begin arriving for airshow

Event to be open to public on the final day on October 18

HYDERABAD: Ilyushin-114, regional turboprop plane and several other aircraft including Bell helicopter 412, landed at the Begumpet airport on Monday to take part in the four-day ‘India Aviation 2008’, beginning here on October 15.

The world’s largest passenger aircraft, A380, is expected to be the star attraction at the event which will be inaugurated by Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel. The double-deck jetliner will touch down at the Begumpet airport at 12 noon on October 16. The aircraft which can cover three-fourths of a football ground, will be on static display on that day and depart in the early hours of October 17.

The event, being jointly organised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), will showcase the development of the country’s civil aviation industry with India emerging as a major player.

As many as 37 international and domestic aircraft, including the smallest Pushpak, will take part in the first ever international exhibition and conference on civil aviation sector. Hundreds of workers were seen busy erecting the pavilions of the global players in aviation industry, including Boeing, Rolls Royce, Airbus and EADS on the sprawling airport.

The 100th delivery ceremony of Bell helicopter in India will be held on October 16. CRJ 900 NextGen, one of Bombardier’s largest and most advanced regional jet, will be showcased. The Eurocopter which has over 480 helicopters in service in India, including Cheetah/Chetak fleet, will exhibit specifications and mock-up medals of its civilian range of reference products. The airshow will be open to public on the final day on October 18.
