CPI rally at Motupalli today

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: The Communist Party of India will lead a massive rally of fishermen, farmers and people affected by the coastal corridor project at Motupalli village in Chinaganjam mandal in Prakasam district on Wednesday.

Party district secretary Muppala Nageswara Rao on Tuesday told reporters that the rally would culminate at the office of special deputy collector R. Srilatha, where they would submit a memorandum demanding fair compensation to all the affected people.

He said that rally was being organised in a ‘massive’ way to demonstrate the vocal opposition to the corridor project. He said that the government was acquiring about 8,800 acres in 11 mandals surrounding the village. The coastal ‘teera prantha samrakshana samithi’ would extend its support to the rally.

Farmers in those areas were being offered compensation ranging from Rs.1.13 lakh to Rs.1.53 lakh, while the actual market rates have soared to Rs.20 lakhs, he pointed out and asked the government to let the companies deal directly with people. He also called for involvement of local people in the development of the region.

On the agitation for land in the district, he said that the party activists would lay siege to the Collector’s office on October 16 demanding pattas to all the eligible people.
