dated October 15, 1958: Volcano eruption

Two Japanese volcanoes erupted on October 13, throwing smoke, steam and rocks high into the air. No casualties were reported. The volcanoes were Mount Aso in Kyushu, Western Japan, and Mount Sakura Jima, further south. From Sakura Jima smoke and rocks were thrown nearly 4,000 feet high. Other Japanese volcanoes have been rumbling since mid-summer and observation stations have been alerted.
