Mar Thoma Church Award for V. Kurien

PATHANAMTHITTA: Varghese Kurien, architect of Operation Flood, has been selected for this year’s Mar Thoma Church Award.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Fr. K.S. Mathew, church secretary, said that the award had been conferred on Dr. Kurien in recognition of his rich contributions in the field of dairy development.

Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma, Metropolitan of Mar Thoma Church, will present the award to Dr. Kurien at a function to be held at the Church Council Chamber at S.C. Seminary in Thiruvalla on Saturday.

Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan of the church, will inaugurate the meeting.

Award

The award, comprising a purse of Rs.1 lakh and a citation, was instituted in the name of A.V. Jones alias Melpadom Attumalil Georgekutty who was known for his interest in promoting scientific and technical studies, said Fr. Mathew.
