KOZHIKODE: The Nirmal award sum will be used for implementing waste treatment projects, district panchayat president K.P. Kunahmmedkutty said here on Tuesday. The panchayat could successfully fulfil the guidelines for winning the total cleanliness award because of efficient networking with the Health Department and National Rural Health Mission. The grama panchayats will be provided Rs.5 lakh each and the block panchayats Rs.12 lakh each. Mr. Kunahmmedkutty said earlier, only 26 grama panchayats had fulfilled the stipulations for bagging the award, but now all 52 grama panchayats were selected. The conditions included not using public places as open toilets and basic toilet facilities in schools. The award will be presented by President Pratibha Patil at a programme to be held in Pune on November 8.
