PUDUCHERRY: For better understanding of subjects for students, the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) will come up with educational programmes and e-content for all subjects through its 17 media centres. At present, educational programmes prepared by the media centres are telecast on CEC’s 24-hour channel “Vyas.” The channel will be made available on direct-to-home service and other networks such as Reliance and Tata Sky, director of CEC Tilak R. Kem told reporters on Tuesday. A three-day festival of Indian documentary films, “Prakriti 2008,” would be inaugurated on Wednesday, he said. In two to three years, educational programmes in all subjects would come up and along with this, e-content of all subjects would also be prepared. “Each media centre can come up with educational programmes and e-content of subjects. We have already attempted for 12 subjects and have 500 e-contents. As many as 16 subjects would be allocated to each media centre. At least 300 to 400 modules are required for each subject,” Mr. Kem said. The CEC might have more channels in the future, with each channel handling one subject. Film festivalUnion Minister of State for Human Resource Development M.A.A. Fatmi would inaugurate the film festival, which would be on environment, development and human rights. The festival was started in 1998 and previously conducted at Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi. Around 14 films would be screened. The valedictory programme would be held on Friday. After screening of each film, students and teachers would be allowed to put questions to the producer of the film. Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University J.A.K. Tareen said that the Union Minister would inaugurate a hostel block on the occasion.
