Rs.58 cr. for solid waste management

VIJAYAWADA: The Central government on Tuesday sanctioned Rs. 58 crores to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) for taking up Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management project in the city under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Municipal Commissioner P. S. Pradyumna made a presentation at a meeting chaired by Union Ministry of Urban Development Secretary M. Ramachandran on the corporation’s plans to take up scientific disposal of solid waste in the city in New Delhi.

Explaining the developmental works taken up under JNNURM in the city, Mr. Pradyumna said that the corporation envisaged making the city litter-free.

Stating that he presented required reports to the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee of JNNURM, Mr. Pradyumna said that the committee members had expressed satisfaction over the proposals. The committee had agreed to sanction Rs. 58 crores for the project.

Superintending Engineer Yohan and Executive Engineer P.L.N. Karthik were also present, according to a press release.
