Learning of Hindi must for BHEL employees

TIRUCHI: Hindi language was considered a tool uniting various regions of the country during the Rajbhasha Day celebrated by BHEL, Tiruchi, recently.

BHEL has fully complied with Rajbhasha policy guidelines issued by the Department of Official Language, Government of India. With the various units of BHEL spread over the country, it has become necessary for employees to learn Hindi, V. Ananthakrishnan, General Manager (In-Charge), BHEL, Tiruchi, and Chairman, Official Language Implementation Committee (OLIC) – BHEL, said, presiding over the Rajbhasha Day function.

Mr. Ananthakrishnan released the annual souvenir BHELKiran on the occasion, in the presence of the chief guest, S. Subramhanian, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, and the guest of honour, R. Ravi, Deputy General Manager, Indian Bank.

Mr. Subramhanian, who is also the Chairman, Town OLIC, spoke of the important role played by Hindi language during the freedom struggle. After Independence, Hindi united different regions, he said, adding that 70 per cent of the country’s population could understand and speak Hindi.

Listing the advantages of learning Hindi language, Mr. Ravi said it was taught in more than 130 universities in the world.

K.A. Nadaf, Rajbhasha Officer, BHEL, while presenting the annual report of the Official Language activities for 2007-08, said BHEL-Tiruchi was honoured with the ‘Raj Bhasha Rolling Shield’ sponsored by Town Language Implementation Committee, Tiruchi, for 2006 and 2007.

A total number of 294 employees had passed Hindi courses and 368 employees benefited from participating in Hindi workshops. Various Hindi competitions were held in which 214 employees and campus school children participated, he said, adding that the annual souvenir BHELKiran won a prize in the XI All India Journal Competition – 2007.
