VISAKHAPATNAM: Commercial sex workers, MSMs (males having sex with males), HIV and AIDS patients want people not to show discrimination against them and request government officials to provide them ration cards and house sites. This appeal was made during the district-level Convergency Forum meeting held here on Tuesday with District Revenue Officer K. Madan Mohan Rao presiding. Reacting to the request for ration cards and house sites, Mr. Madan Mohan said proposals would be made to the government. Earlier, Additional District Medical and Health Officer (AIDS and leprosy) P. Rajendra Prasad gave a power-point presentation on the anti-AIDS measures being taken in the district. Special attentionDMHO J. Sarojini said PHCs and health workers would be asked to give special attention to AIDS and HIV patients. Regional Director of Health Satyabala wanted the department to ensure patients took medicines regularly and that the disease did not spread from mother to child. Srinivasa Rao of the HIV Positive Network, CPO of Chaitanya Jyoti Mahila Sangham Ramanamma and others explained about the needs of patients. District TB Control Officer B. Balasundara Rao, Additional DMHO (Paderu) Muralimohan, G. Sumana, Srikanth, Joginaidu and others representing NGOs and others participated in the meeting.
