Advani’s helicopter lands at wrong helipad

Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: In spite of meticulous planning and tight security arrangements made for the visit of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani to the city on Tuesday, his helicopter missed the helipad where it was originally scheduled to land, delaying his arrival by about half an hour.

The private helicopter with Mr. Advani on board was to land at 10 a.m. at Captain Vikram Maidan at West Hill in the city where his party leaders had gathered to receive him. However, the helicopter flew to the Calicut airport at Karipur in neighbouring Malappuram district, about 25 km away, and landed there.

As soon as the mistake was noticed, the helicopter was flown back to Captain Vikram Maidan.

Mr. Advani then drove from the helipad at West Hill to Gateway Hotel and from there to the Tagore Centenary Hall where he presented the V.M. Korath Award for Excellence in Journalism instituted by Tapasya Art and Literary Forum to senior journalist M.V. Kamath.
