BANGALORE: Former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has been directed to appear in the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on November 11 in connection with some statements he made in a Janata Dal (Secular) executive committee meeting. Judge B.S. Naik took cognisance of the private complaint filed by city advocate N.P. Amruthesh. The court on Thursday directed the High Grounds police to register a case against Mr. Kumaraswamy and investigate whether he had hurt the religious sentiments of the Veerashaiva community. The Magistrate, K. Palakshappa, passed the orders after taking note of a private complaint filed in the court on December 12 by Mr. Amruthesh, who had sought action against Mr. Kumaraswamy for allegedly making malicious remarks against the seers of the Veerashaiva community, particularly Sri Shivakumara Swami of Siddaganga Math, at a Janata Dal (S) rally held at Palace Grounds in November last. The Magistrate had directed the High Grounds Police to investigate the case. The police filed a report stating that there was no substance to the allegation. Following a hearing, the court took cognisance of the complaint and registered a case under Section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of citizens) of Indian Penal Code.
