Lathicharge condemned
Andhra Pradesh Rythu Coolie Sangham on Wednesday condemned the lathicharge on representatives of various parties protesting in front of the office of Vadarevu-Nizampatnam Port Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) at Chirala in Prakasam district.
In a statement, the sangham president S. Jhansi and secretary K. Kotaiah said many leaders who were on their way to the VANPIC office to join the protest were arrested while several activists were injured in the ‘unprovoked’ lathicharge. They said the series of protests were being staged in protest against GO no. 34 envisaging ‘forcible occupation’ of the 28,000 acres of land that forms the coastal belt in Guntur and Prakasam districts. These lands were being ‘snatched away’ by the Government in the name of ‘coastal corridor’, they alleged.
