KATHMANDU: Chief of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Ian Martin on Thursday urged the government to form a special committee to rehabilitate Maoist combatants soon. Mr. Martin also reminded the government of its commitments to the peace agreements. “The United Nations has expressed its willingness to support the Peace Ministry in whatever ways it may request in this [peace agreements’] implementation,” he said. UNMIN has been assisting in Nepal’s peace process since January 2007 and has mandate till January 2009. It has been monitoring 28 cantonments where nearly 20,000 ‘verified’ combatants are sheltered.
