CHANDIGARH: Haryana Minister of State for Forests and Environment Kiran Choudhry on Thursday directed the officers of the State Environment and Forests Departments to take immediate necessary steps to conserve environment. Presiding over a meeting of officials of the Environment and Forests Departments and the Haryana Pollution Control Board in New Delhi, she asked them to create public awareness about a “pollution-free environment” by organising rallies in the villages and at the district level with active participation of the people. According to an official release here, Haryana State Pollution Control Board Chairman A. S. Chahal disclosed during the meeting that 2,570 cases relating to various categories of Acts were pending in special environment courts at Faridabad and Kurukshetra. About 5,014 convictions had been made by these courts since 2002, he added.
