Ongole
ONGOLE: Police here on Thursday arrested two persons and recovered Rs. 5 lakhs in cash from them which they had allegedly obtained by cheating a rice dealer at Ongole with a spurious gold biscuit. Superintendent of Police V. Navin Chand told newspersons here that the accused – G. Anjeneyalu and T. Nagaraju -- belonging to Madala village of Mupalla mandal in Guntur district, contacted the rice dealer, Narasimha Rao, with an offer to sell a gold biscuit weighing one kg and worth over Rs.10 lakhs for just Rs.5 lakhs. When Narasimha Rao enquired about the quality of the gold biscuit, the tricksters offered him a piece from the biscuit for testing. Narasimha Rao promptly got it tested and satisfied himself with the quality of it. He offered them Rs.5 lakhs and took the biscuit. But he found to his dismay that it was a fake one. It was a brass biscuit coated with gold. He lodged a complaint with the police. Sub-Inspector of Police Ashok Vardhan, basing on the modus operandi, concluded that it was the handiwork of a gang in Guntur district. He swooped on them and arrested both the accused persons and on their information recovered the cash.
