ISLAMABAD: One of two Chinese men abducted by Taliban militants in Pakistan’s North-West Frontier Province in August escaped his kidnappers on Friday and was recovered by security forces, according to media reports. The two men, both engineers employed by a Chinese telecommunication company in Pakistan, and their Pakistani driver were taken hostage in the Dir area, near Swat Valley. The Taliban owned up to the abduction, and earlier this month, allowed the two men to make a videotaped appeal for their release through local journalists who were allowed to meet them. The second Chinese man also reportedly tried to escape but was recaptured by the militants. There is no word about the Pakistani who was also taken hostage with them. There is also no word about a Polish engineer who was abducted in Attock in the NWFP last month by gunmen who also killed his Pakistani driver, a security guard and translator.
