Preparations in full swing for Young World painting contest

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Preparations are in full swing for the 2008 edition of The Hindu-Young World painting competition, presented by Lotte BOOPROO, to be held at the Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram on November 29.

Entries for the event have started coming in. Students from classes IV to VII will compete in the junior category while those in classes VIII to X will compete in the senior category. Entries for the preliminary round are to be sent to The Regional General Manager, The Hindu, T.C. 36/1946(1), Airport Road, Vallakkadavu, Thiruvananthapuram-695008 so as to reach the office on or before November 3, 2008.

The topics for the junior category are: Sports Day, In the Zoo, Flying Kites and Birthday Party.

The topics for the senior round are: Watching a Stage Play, On a Hill Station, Bandh/Strike Day and Environment Day. Contestants can choose one topic from among these.

The paintings should be on a white canvas sheet (size 26 cm x 27 cm) and should be certified by the art teacher or the school Principal concerned.

The entries should also contain the name of the participant, age, class, school and residential address. All entries should be accompanied by two BOOPROO liquid-filled bubble gum mono-wrappers. As in the previous years, there is no entry fee or entry form, for those wishing to participate in the event.

In addition to Thiruvananthapuram, the painting competition would also be held in Kochi and Kozhikode on November 29 and at Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, New Delhi, Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchirapalli.

Once the entries to the preliminary round are judged, the selected students would be notified individually. They should report at the venue of the competition — along with the intimation letter — on the said date.

The competitions will commence at 9 a.m. The topics for the finals would be given at the venue itself. The decision of the judges would be final. The paintings would become the sole property of The Hindu and would not be returned to the participants.

The winners of the finals would be given prizes on the same day. In addition to the first, second and third prizes, there would be consolation prizes too.

All the winners would be given a gift hamper from Lotte BOOPROO. Participation certificates would be given to all the finalists.
