Gorakallu reservoir

The SRBC project consisting of 198-km lined canal, distribution network and the reservoirs of Gorakallu and Owk to irrigate 1.9 lakh acres in Kurnool district is now nearly complete but for the leaky Gorakallu reservoir. Sensing the near-impossibility to complete this reservoir, the source of Galeru-Nagari project has been now shifted from Gorakallu to Owk to irrigate 2.6 lakh acres in Kadapa, Nellore and Chittoor districts. Our work in the SVU’s PG Centre at Kadapa (Vemana University) during 1990s indicated that irrigation water can be provided under this reservoir only through large-scale recharge and discharge of groundwater beneath it.

Provide job opportunities

As the elections are drawing near, some of the politicians are promising to pay, if they are voted to powers an allowance for the unemployed youth. Such a step would harm them both. It they have no worthwhile jobs to do, they will resort to do some illegal acts. In the long run, it will be found that we have paid them an allowance to do illegal and destructive acts. So, providing them employment opportunities is much better than paying an allowance.
