2 lakh houses to be built

Kakinada: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said efforts were being made to complete the construction of 2,00,000 houses under Indiramma scheme before the end of December. A total of 3,20,000 houses have so far been sanctioned for the district (1,60,000 under the first and second phases and an equal number in third phase).

Speaking to the media persons at Yeleswaram on Saturday, Mr. Dwivedi said 1,25,000 houses were till now constructed and concerted efforts were on to reach the targets during the Indiramma Sambaralu programme. Steps were taken to provide pattas to the beneficiaries at the earliest.

Pensions

The Collector said 1,17,000 pensions were being sanctioned under the third phase of Indiramma scheme. With this the total number of pensions being paid was about to reach 4,00,000. At present houses and pensions were being sanctioned only for those possessing ration cards.

New ration cards could be obtained from the DPL centres set up in the revenue division offices and at the mandal level. Lands required for houses were being acquired with the consent of farmers and steps were taken to pay them the market rates to the extent possible, Mr. Dwivedi added. MLA V Subba Rao and Yeleswaram mandal president Tammaiah Babu were present.
