Shortage of coins

Of late, there is shortage of small coins in the denominations of Re.1, Rs. 2 and Rs. 5. This is perhaps due to brokers collecting the small coins at State Bank counters and selling them for a commission raging from Rs.8 to Rs.12 for 100 coins of Re.1. The treasury branches of State Bank of India should arrange for distribution of coins to all public sector undertakings like RTC, petrol pumps, banks, LIC, eSeva centres, super bazaars, post offices and railway stations to overcome the problem.

Unsafe cinema halls

I had a harrowing experience of watching a movie in one of the three cinema halls situated in the cine complex in the heart of the city. As it is located at the top of the building, I had to reach the theatre by climbing the narrow staircase. Being in my mid sixties, I was gasping for breath and it took nearly half an hour for me to settle down after the movie began.

There is only one common entrance-cum-exit door. The emergency exit does not lead to the staircase. It is hardly possible for the audience to escape in the event of any accident. To use the toilets, one has to take a few steps down again. Even as I was watching the movie, I was haunted by shocking reports of Uphaar cinema tragedy in Delhi a decade ago. Isn’t it high time the authorities concerned took stern action against managements of such theatres in the interest of precious human lives?

ECoR needs to do more

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) should construct a platform and a flyover at Simhachalam North station’s bypass route to Duvvada for bypass trains as this is the nearest station to the city. Also, the height of the platforms at Marripalem station should be increased as senior citizens are finding it difficult to get on board from the low levels.

Ply more buses

Buses are scarce to V.S. Krishna College area. Only one bus – 20 A – passes through the route, that too only a few times in a day. A person who wants to take the bus has to walk all the way to the HB Colony bus stop, which is nearly half a km away. Autorickshaw drivers take advantage of the situation and demand high fares. The APSRTC should introduce more buses on this route and increase the frequency to the area connecting MVP Colony, Rama Talkies, Jagadamba centre, Aseelmetta and other areas.
