New Delhi: The plea of an Army officer, awarded with Censure of ‘Severe Displeasure’ for allegedly supplying unhygienic meat to the troops and management, has been rejected by the Delhi High Court. Dismissing a petition filed by Lt Col S S Shekhavat challenging the award passed by the Defence Ministry in July 2003, a Division Bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Mool Chand Garg in a recent judgment said “We are of the view that the Defence Ministry is justified in forming the opinion to award the punishment of censure to the petitioner”. “The punishment of severe displeasure is only a temporary punishment which goes off the record after a period of three years...,” the court also said. In May 1997, Shekhavat was chargesheeted for allowing use of water on carcasses to increase their physical weight. He was also charged for making use of edible oil to give stale meat a fresh appearance.- PTI
