dated October 20, 1958: National reconstruction

At his meeting with Prime Minister Nehru in New Delhi on October 19, Mr. Jayaprakash Narayanan is understood to have canvassed support for his proposal for a conference of all political parties professing democratic socialism to draw up a common programme of national reconstruction. Mr. Jayaprakash is also presumed to have elaborated his second suggestion that topmost leaders of parties must quit office, draw up a non-partisan programme of reconstruction and lead a mass movement with a view to mobilising the people’s energy for national development.
