For the first time in British history, women will next week take their place in the House of Lords as Peers of Parliament’s second chamber, with the right to sit and vote on an equal footing with men. The four women are part of a group of 14 “life” Peers recently created by Queen Elizabeth on the Government’s advises. All four women are well-known public figures, chosen for their record of service to the community.
