dated October 20, 1958: Nuclear test

Russia on October 19 exploded her biggest nuclear weapon since she resumed tests on September 30, the Japanese Central Meteorological Observatory announced in Tokyo on October 19. Shock waves originating in the Arctic Circle were recorded in various parts of Japan for about 20 minutes. Russia resumed nuclear tests after a six-month suspension. The American Atomic Energy Commission said eight Soviet tests had taken place in the Arctic Circle since September 30.
