Thiruvananthapuram
Traffic snarls are quite common in the busy accident-prone area including the University Office junction and the PMG’s Office junction. Vehicle criss-cross on this road taking a free right turn from the Assembly road to proceed eastwards and entering from the PMG Office road to proceed towards the Palayam side. To ease this confusion, the following reforms may be considered. City buses proceeding from the East Fort side towards Vellayambalam-Peroorkada areas may be routed via the right side of the VJT Hall to reach Rama Rao Lamp Junction and continue their journey by the Museum Road. Buses bound for Nedumangadu can be routed through the Nandavanam road towards Rama Rao Lamp Junction, turn right there and proceed further. Buses bound for Kollam and Kottayam sides should be routed through the underpass from Bakery Junction to reach the University Office and proceed via the Assembly road. This major reform will reduce confusion and congestion at University Office Junction, PMG’s Office Junction and traffic flow will be distributed. Traffic signals or the service of traffic constables will be needed at the Rama Rao Lamp junction, Public Library Junction, and Martyrs Column to regulate traffic. P. Neelakantan Thiruvananthapuram Bold verdictThe report on the KSU activists cleaning the Kerala University Office campus with cow dung soon after the verdict of the Lok Ayukta on the ‘assistant appointment scam’ was worth reading and good food for thought too. The chairs of the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor should have been cleaned first, particularly as the seats occupied by eminent personalities earlier are now occupied by third-rate ‘doctors.’ Justice Krishnan Nair deserves our congratulations for his bold verdict despite threats on his life from some quarters. Now, the question is will our government move ahead with action against the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor or try to save them through ‘appeals’? Government must adopt a bold stand. T.V.R. Potti Poojappura Wind energyThe Government of Tamil Nadu generates electricity from wind at places like Kayathar and Aruvaimozhi in the nearby Kanyakumari district. Kerala planned to produce electrical energy from wind and places had been identified for this. The Minister for Electricity should look into the matter as we are lagging behind in this field.
