RSS seeks Central act to ban conversion

Special Correspondent

Joint general secretary of RSS Madan Das Devi addressing a press conference at Gudilova near Visakhapatnam.

Visakhapatnam: Decrying the State and Central Governments for their “partisan and dubious roles” in handling the situation in Khandamal in Orissa where Swamy Lakshmananda Saraswathi was killed, and condemning the reign of terror and “indiscriminate arrest” of innocents, the three-day national executive committee meeting of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which concluded at Gudilova on the outskirts of the city on Sunday demanded enactment of a Central legislation to ban religious conversion. Conversions are religious imperialism, it said.

The committee had adopted four resolution--on conversion, Islamic terrorism, Bangladeshi infiltrators in Assam and Amarnatha Yatra Sangharshan Samithi-- which were released to media by joint general secretary of the RSS Madan Das Devi here on Sunday.

He said under the influence of the missionary elements and the Central Government, the State Government was trying to protect perpetrators by bringing in the Maoist angle. According to him the violence that followed the Swamiji’s murder was the result of socio-economic rivalry between Khand tribals and the converts of Panas. Large scale conversion among the Panas and their efforts to usurp lands and reservation benefits from Kandhas had resulted in serious resentment among Kandhas, leading to the disturbance of harmony between the two communities, he said. By a resolution the committee expressed concern over the serial bomb blasts in various parts of the country, resulting in killing of hundreds of people allegedly by the ‘so called Jehadi’ elements, and called upon people in power to shed their vote bank politics and curb the violence with iron hand. .

It called upon the Central Government to enact a comprehensive legislation to detect Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators in Assam, delete their names from the voters list and deport them to Bangladesh.

According to Mr. Madan Das Devi, Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators have settled in more than 3000 villages in Asssam.

By another resolution the national executive of RSS congratulated the Sri Amarnath Sangharshan Samithi on its success in the agitation against the revocation of land allotment and management rights of Amarnath Shrine Board and termed it a manifestation of the accumulated popular resentment against the unjust and discriminatory policies of the Government towards the people of Jammu and Ladakh.

Manmohan Vaidya, Akhila Bharat Pracharak Pramukh, was present.
