Kodiyeri for more action on women’s quota

Kozhikode: Mainstream political parties should take up the issue of women’s reservation without leaving it to women’s organisations alone, said Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan here on Monday.

He was inaugurating a seminar on ‘the relevance and need of women’s reservation’ organised by the State women’s sub-committee of the All India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) at the Town Hall here.

“The Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) is resolved to join hands with any political party in this issue,” he said.

“Some political parties are trying to sabotage the idea of reservation for women by asking for caste and religious quota inside women’s reservation,” he said.

The Minister, who maintained that a Bill should be brought to Parliament again immediately, added that all the other major parties, including the Congress and the BJP, were playing a double game on this issue.

The Home Minister, who said that the women in Kerala have already proved their prowess on the administrational front, said that the State had as many as 339 women panchayat presidents.

K.K. Lathika, MLA, presided over the function. AILU State Women’s sub-committee convener P. Aisha Potti, MLA, and AILU district convener V.K. Prasanna among others spoke on the occasion.
