Water was released for the first time in the Bhakra canal network last week for the sowing of the rabi crop. This is another landmark in the history of the Bhakra-Nangal project. A very substantial increase in the food and oil seed crops in the southern districts of Punjab is anticipated as a result of this year’s winter canal water supplies, says an official report.
